Personal Background:
Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin, Texas and now spends her time traveling anywhere between Austin and Nashville with her two dogs, Eleanor and Gus Gus. Before becoming a professional photographer, Blincoe began working (illegally) at a restaurant bussing tables at a Chinese food place in Bastrop Texas. By the ages of 15-16 she was waiting tables and working as a cashier in the summertime before school started. Blincoe says she never really was the type to learn in a classroom setting and would do anything to get out. The first “real” job she obtained was a general manager at a Kerbey Lane Cafe. She says that her soul wasn’t in it and it urged her to make the leap to photography.
Style: |
This artist tends to focus on the positives of life. Many of her portrait photos include her subjects smiling widely with beautiful bright colors around them. She uses a lot of natural light and objects of nature to emphasize the beauty of our Earth. Blincoe also has an entire collection of her dog, Eleanor. We can see that she really enjoys her job and not only is photography her occupation but it is something that she loves to do as well, and this really shows in her photos.
Philosophy:
Blincoe has so much experience in a variety of different types of photography. She has collections of personal growth, her dog, happy portraits, and so many more. In her collection personal growth, by using flowers, I think Blincoe is trying to say that although it may not always seem like it, we’re growing everyday, just like a flower. I also think that by including photos of something so personal to her, her dog Eleanor, she is sharing her life with her audience which allows us to feel more connected. By looking at her images, you can really tell that she tends to take pictures of the happy moments which I think really makes her images that much more powerful. People love to be happy and by seeing happy photos, I think they are influenced.
Influences:
Emily Blincoe has influenced me to take brighter, more lively and happy photos. I love all of the beautiful colors in each of her images and that is something I really want to show in my photography. I want my audience to smile while looking at my images and feel the same way I felt looking at Blincoe’s. I also was inspired by the way she took something so personal to her and captured the beautiful moments of Eleanor. This artist is inspired by faces, new places, shapes, colors, light and quiet little moments. We can see all of her inspirations shown in her collection of photos.

My Recreations:
Compare and Contrast:
Since we live in Michigan and we do not have a Whataburger anywhere near us, I had to improvise. I headed to Mcdonalds and bought some french friends to try and recreate this photo. I also did not have the teal background she had but I tried my best and I think it turned out fairly similar. For the one of the line of toothbrushes, my family does not own that many toothbrushes so I improvised with the amount we had. Also, many of the toothbrushes my family owns are electric rather than standard. Lastly, the picture of her dog, Eleanor I tried my best to recreate with my dog, Rocky. Rocky is very restless and loves to play so it was very hard to keep him laying down still. Also, Eleanor and Rocky are very different breeds of dogs.
Personal Artist Statement:
My images resemble two things I love very much and one thing I use on an everyday basis. The bright blue background on the french fries picture really stood out to me and was something I wanted to include in my project. Not only do I enjoy french fries, but the color teal as well. Also in the toothbrush picture, the straight line of vibrant colors really grabs your attention and locks you into the photo. I wanted to recreate this because of the way it captured my attention. Lastly, the photo of my dog is something that really means a lot to me. When I head off to college I am going to miss him so much and he is something that really means the world to me. Seeing that Emily Blincoe felt this way about her dog really inspired me to recreate her images.
